Elk Park: A contract was implemented October 15, 1994 so Elk Park residents could use either the Butte Silver-Bow landfill or any Jefferson County container site.

Q: What are the fees?

A: Currently there is no charge to residents when they dispose of residential waste generated on Jefferson County property if the annual $129.69 unit assessment (on your tax statement) has been paid. Construction and demolition waste is charged at $20.00 per cubic yard of Class III waste or (inert) is accepted at the Boulder and Whitehall sites at $15.00 per cubic yard. Non-Jefferson County residents are charged $50.00/cubic yard.
Q: What waste is accepted?

A: What's Accepted: All garbage, rubbish and trash produced through typical residential activity. Class III waste (Inert) must have all bagging removed.

Infectious waste
Flammable products
EPA rated hazardous waste
Radioactive waste
Herbicides
Cooking grease
Asbestos
Contaminated dirt
Sludge
Sewage tanks
Burn Barrels
Poles or wood treated with pentachlorophenol
Fuel tanks
Rock, dirt, bricks, large truck loads of wire, big chunks of iron, engine blocks, axles, big pipes, tractor/truck tires, etc. are only accepted at the Boulder and Whitehall sites.

Separation of Waste/Recycling: PLEASE COVER & SECURE YOUR LOAD! Please, let's all do our part to keep our county clean. Leave your trash at the container sites, not along the roadside.

Each site has a"Re-Use-It area" for useable donated items.

Boulder Transfer Site:Cardboard, Glass, aluminum, steel cans, newspapers, cardboard, bulk metals, used oil & car batteries. Clean yard and inert waste (no plastic bags).

Boulder Courthouse:Glass, aluminum, steel cans, newspapers, office paper. Note: Additional recycling is offered by the Montana Developmental Center in Boulder.

Whitehall Transfer Site: Glass, Used oil, bulk metal, car batteries, corrugated cardboard, In Blue bags: milk jugs, pop liters.

Whitehall IGA: Aluminum, steel cans, newspapers, glass.

Montana City Transfer Site: Aluminum, steel cans, newspapers, clean glass, cardboard, used oil, car batteries & bulk metals. Yard and inert waste is collected separately -it must be clean (no plastic bags).

Jefferson City Transfer Site: Aluminum, steel cans, newspapers, glass.

Downtown Clancy and Basin: (look for the bins) Aluminum, steel cans, newspapers, glass.

Please, all cans and bottles must be cleaned and all cardboard boxes must be empty and broken down.
Used motor oil accepted in clean plastic sealed containers of 5 gallons or less.

The Whitehall and Boulder container site has a Class III (inert waste) disposal pit. Items that can be disposed of in the Group III waste pit include wood and non-water soluble solids such as concrete, brick, vehicle tires, brush and unpainted lumber.
